Role overview
WSP is seeking a Project Technician to join its Invercargill team and support the delivery of infrastructure and engineering work throughout the Southland region. The position involves working alongside experienced engineers and project managers to assist with project coordination, design documentation, site work, and client delivery.
This opportunity is suited to someone at an early stage of their career who wants to strengthen technical abilities and gain practical project management experience while contributing to work that benefits local communities.
What you will be doing
- Helping deliver infrastructure and engineering projects across Southland, including support for consultancy assignments in transport, water, buildings, and planning.
- Assisting with the preparation of design briefs, project schedules, and cost estimates.
- Handling project administration and documentation, including progress reporting and record keeping.
- Supporting investigations, design tasks, and site-based supervision, along with inspections and fieldwork when needed.
- Tracking project progress against timelines and budgets.
- Working with teams across different disciplines to achieve strong project outcomes.
- Promoting safe working methods and adherence to quality requirements.
About you
The ideal candidate will bring a relevant tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related field, along with around 2 or more years of experience in a similar position. You should be organised, able to juggle several priorities, and comfortable communicating with stakeholders at different levels.
A strong team mindset, client-focused approach, and commitment to quality delivery are important, as is a professional, accountable, and trustworthy manner. A full, clean driver licence is required.

Applicants must already have full, unrestricted permission to work in New Zealand. Visa sponsorship through the Accredited Employer Work Visa pathway is not available for this role.
