Role overview
This position reports to the Vice President of Operations, Central Region, and works closely with the National Director of Engineering. The role is responsible for overseeing major projects across Ontario plants and supporting additional Canadian sites as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and drive projects from concept to completion, including timelines, budgets, installation plans, commissioning plans, risk review, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate day-to-day project execution so targets are met on schedule and within approved financial limits.
- Work with a broad group of stakeholders, including plant operations and maintenance teams, R&D, procurement, accounts payable, contractors, suppliers, consultants, engineering firms, regulators, and municipalities.
- Lead multidisciplinary initiatives involving construction management, equipment setup, commissioning, acceptance testing, and project close-out.
- Prepare progress updates and management reports, while adjusting project scope, schedule, or budget when business needs change.
- Review and support the technical content of procedures and control programming for training purposes when required.
- Identify and resolve technical problems that arise during design, engineering, installation, and commissioning for individual machines, production lines, or complete facilities.
- Carry out other related duties while following Sika Canada Inc.’s health and safety requirements.
Requirements
- Proven ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Strong capability in design, planning, organization, and communication.
- Hands-on, proactive approach to troubleshooting, with solid critical thinking and sound judgment.
- High level of ownership and ability to take projects from start to finish with limited supervision.
- Good understanding of regulatory compliance requirements, including OHSA, building codes, electrical codes, and environmental regulations, along with experience dealing with regulatory bodies and municipalities.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering, plus project management experience on projects up to $2M.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Smartsheet or a comparable project management platform.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- At least 5 years of experience managing projects of small, medium, and large scale.
- Bilingual French-English skills are considered an advantage.
