About Customer Alliance
Customer Alliance is a company built around feedback, and that focus shapes both its culture and its product direction. The team is highly international, with 19 nationalities represented, and the workplace emphasizes encouragement, knowledge sharing, and steady professional growth. The environment is designed to be positive, supportive, and enjoyable while still moving quickly and ambitiously.
Role overview
The company is seeking an ambitious Head of Engineering to own the technology direction and help shape the next phase of growth. This position is intended for someone who is relatively early in their leadership path, enjoys ambiguity, and is excited by the chance to build something new rather than simply maintain existing systems.
You will help define a modern technology strategy, guide the engineering organization, and contribute to building the product of the future. Strong strategic judgment, modern architecture thinking, and an interest in emerging technologies are central to success in this role.
Key responsibilities
The role covers technology leadership, team development, and strategic execution. You will be expected to align engineering with business goals, support innovation, and work closely with senior leadership.
- Set the company’s technology direction, including roadmap, long-term vision, and strategy, while keeping it aligned with business priorities.
- Lead, coach, and develop the engineering team so it grows into a strong, collaborative, high-performing group.
- Bring the team into alignment with future technology plans, including modern engineering practices and AI-supported ways of working.
- Assess new and emerging technologies and determine how they can strengthen the company’s competitive position.
- Plan and oversee departmental budgets, making sure innovation and financial discipline stay balanced.
- Serve as a technical partner to the CEO and Board, turning complex technical matters into clear business language.
- Encourage a practical, solution-oriented culture that values experimentation, speed, and continuous improvement.
- Develop productive relationships with external technology partners and vendors and manage those interactions effectively.
Expected outcomes after six months
- You will have built a trusted working relationship with the CEO and key stakeholders.
- A clear technology roadmap will have been defined and put into motion.
- The engineering team will be aligned with the future technology strategy and new operating practices.
- New development approaches will have been introduced and tested to improve efficiency.
- A structured process for evaluating and adopting new technologies will be in place.
- The team culture will reflect innovation, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Clear KPIs and regular reporting routines will be established for the executive team.
Requirements
The position is based in Berlin and follows a hybrid working model requiring 2–3 days in the office each week. Strong English communication is required, and German is helpful but not mandatory.
- At least 10 years of hands-on experience in SaaS technology companies.
- Some prior exposure to leading technical teams, such as in an Engineering Manager or similar technical leadership role.
- A proven background in building, mentoring, and guiding strong product development teams.
- Solid understanding of modern software development practices, architecture, and IT infrastructure.
- Strong enthusiasm for emerging technologies, especially AI and agent-supported development tools.
- Good project management ability with a collaborative approach to stakeholder coordination.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across internal teams and external partners.
- Comfort with ambiguity, change, and creating new ways of working rather than preserving the status quo.
- Experience helping engineering teams adopt new technologies and operating models.
- A growth mindset, ambition, and the motivation to help build something from the ground up.
Nice-to-have background
- Experience in startups or fast-growing technology businesses.
- Previous success with agent-assisted or AI-powered development workflows.
- Exposure to customer feedback, hospitality technology, or review management products.
Benefits
- An international team with a friendly atmosphere and regular team events.
- Hybrid working from a dedicated Mindspace office in central Berlin (Hausvogteiplatz, Mitte).
- Full Mindspace co-working membership, giving access to other locations as well.
- The chance to work with experienced colleagues who are focused on building strong products.
- Budget support for bringing remote team members together in person.
- An opportunity to shape the technology future of a growing SaaS business.
- Direct collaboration with the CEO and leadership team on strategic work.
- Choice of your own device.
- Additional vacation days each year, starting at 26 and increasing up to 34.
- FitX gym membership available at all locations.
Additional information
This role is intended for someone who is early enough in their leadership journey to be excited by building rather than maintaining. The ideal candidate will enjoy helping define new processes, introducing innovative tooling, and creating a culture that values experimentation and momentum.
