Position Overview
The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer will provide the senior-most leadership for NCATC, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing advanced technology education, workforce development, and economic vitality. Working under the direction of the Board of Directors, this leader will carry out the organization’s mission, expand membership and partnerships, safeguard financial health, and serve as NCATC’s national public face.
Leadership and Strategy
- Set the organization’s direction with leadership that reflects NCATC’s mission, strategic plan, and board priorities.
- Steer growth, organizational change, and innovation across advanced technology education and workforce development.
- Act as the primary spokesperson and national ambassador for NCATC.
Board and Governance
- Assist the Board of Directors by preparing meeting agendas, reports, and strategic recommendations.
- Organize board and committee meetings in person and online, and document and share the minutes.
- Maintain adherence to bylaws, IRS obligations including Form 990, recordkeeping requirements, and sound governance practices.
- Keep official corporate records, policies, and the master organizational calendar up to date.
Financial Management
- Lead annual budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal oversight in partnership with the Treasurer and the Board.
- Ensure financial statements are accurate and that GAAP, audits or reviews, tax filings, and reserve planning are properly managed.
- Oversee revenue sources such as membership dues, sponsorships, events, and other income.
- Manage banking, financial systems, contracts, and insurance coverage.
Membership and Partner Engagement
- Drive strategies for recruiting, retaining, and engaging members.
- Address member questions and support services and benefits that add value.
- Maintain reliable membership records and analyze reporting trends.
- Build and sustain strategic partnerships with industry, education, government, and national organizations.
Programs and Member Services
- Provide leadership for NCATC’s Member Assistance Program, delivering advisory support for workforce development, ATC planning, facilities, program design, and community engagement.
- Provide grant-related technical assistance and external evaluation services, with deep experience in NSF-ATE and other federal grant programs.
Events and Convenings
- Oversee NCATC’s Annual Conference, board meetings, webinars, and other special events end to end.
- Direct conference planning, budgeting, venue selection, contracting, marketing, registration, exhibitors, sponsorships, and on-site delivery.
Marketing, Communications, and Publications
- Lead the communications approach across newsletters, the website, social media, surveys, and press releases.
- Maintain consistent branding, messaging, and visibility for NCATC and its members.
- Oversee the creation of publications, promotional assets, and digital content.
External Relations and Advocacy
- Represent NCATC in national settings, including organizations such as AACC and affiliated councils.
- Contribute to workforce and economic development efforts, advisory groups, and federally or industry funded initiatives.
- Support awareness and education around policy issues connected to workforce and technology education.
Administration and Operations
- Oversee contracts, vendors, technology platforms, data management, and daily administrative work.
- Supervise and coordinate with the Operations Manager and outside contractors.
- Handle additional responsibilities assigned by the Board that align with the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven senior-level leadership experience in nonprofit organizations, higher education, workforce development, or a closely related field.
- Strong record of financial leadership, including budgeting, fiscal oversight, and long-term sustainability planning.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships.
- Experience working with and supporting a Board of Directors.
- Excellent written, verbal, and public communication skills.
- Ability to bring together diverse stakeholders and guide productive discussions.
- Strong organizational leadership and operational management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- National-level experience in workforce development, advanced technology education, industry or government initiatives, or grant management.
Additional Experience Valued
- Experience managing grants, especially federal grants such as NSF-ATE.
- Comfort representing an organization externally and participating in advocacy efforts.
- Background overseeing events, membership organizations, or professional associations.
- Working knowledge of nonprofit compliance and governance requirements, including IRS filings and board governance.
Compensation
NCATC provides a competitive compensation package that includes base pay plus potential additional earnings through Board-approved member services, grant evaluation work, consulting, facilitation, training programs, conference-related activities, sponsorship development, and other mission-supporting strategic initiatives.
The preferred candidate will bring an entrepreneurial mindset and a track record of creating innovative programs, strengthening partnerships, increasing member value, and supporting organizational growth.
