Estimator

Role Summary

The Estimator will prepare material take-offs for residential and light commercial projects, using sound knowledge of construction methods, materials, and common building practices. This role supports Carter Lumber’s mission by delivering accurate estimates and maintaining a strong focus on customer service.

What You’ll Do

• Produce timely material take-offs for residential and commercial plans from a wide range of blueprints.
• Study construction documents to identify the materials needed for each bid.
• Spot and correct any possible errors or gaps in material lists.
• Partner with outside sales representatives on all blueprint-related matters.
• Track the progress of take-offs and help sales teams move projects toward completion.

What We’re Looking For

• At least 2 years of experience in residential and light commercial construction, or 2 years in estimating.
• Solid understanding of home, pole building, garage, barn, and deck components.
• Ability to interpret blueprints accurately.
• Background in building material sales.
• Familiarity with professional estimating software.
• Comfort using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
