Configuration Manager - NV1

Overview

A Defence-focused consultancy is looking for a seasoned Configuration Manager to oversee configuration governance across both acquisition and sustainment work. In this position, you will develop and maintain configuration management frameworks, protect configuration integrity through the full system lifecycle, and act as a trusted advisor to engineering, project, and leadership stakeholders.

This opportunity requires an NV1 security clearance. The role may be offered either on a contract or permanent basis, is fully based in Canberra, and offers compensation up to $1,000 per day including superannuation or a package of up to $200,000 including superannuation.

Responsibilities

• Design, maintain, and keep improving the program’s configuration management framework in line with Defence policy and accepted standards.
• Administer configuration baselines for functional, allocated, product, and as-maintained states.
• Run configuration control activities, including Change Control Boards and assessments of engineering impact.
• Maintain complete traceability linking requirements, design outputs, verification evidence, and delivered configuration.
• Manage configuration status accounting and produce program reporting.
• Spot configuration management risks, compliance gaps, and corrective actions, then drive them to closure in a timely way.
• Work closely with engineering authorities, project teams, sustainment groups, and external industry partners.
• Assess contract deliverables and data item descriptions to support commercial and technical oversight.
• Participate in technical reviews, audits, and lifecycle gate reviews.

Requirements

• Proven configuration management background in Defence or similarly complex engineering settings, covering both acquisition and sustainment.
• Solid grasp of configuration management concepts, standards, and lifecycle-based frameworks.
• Ability to operate independently and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience delivering in Defence environments is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of ASDEFCON and Defence engineering governance is desirable.
• Understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle is beneficial.
• Experience using configuration management tools such as DOORS, or similar systems, is an advantage.

Compensation is stated as up to $1,000 per day including superannuation, or up to a $200,000 package including superannuation.

This position is 100% Canberra-based.

Experience

Applicants should have configuration management experience in Defence or other complex engineering environments, ideally spanning acquisition and sustainment activities.

Desired knowledge

Exposure to Defence delivery settings, ASDEFCON, Defence engineering governance, systems engineering lifecycle practices, and tools such as DOORS would be advantageous.
