About the Company

Max AI is building an autonomous medical billing system for healthcare and positioning itself as a fully human-free AI agent for revenue cycle management. The company focuses on solving a large market opportunity estimated at $350B annually and has already begun with dermatology, while expanding into additional specialties.

The team combines deep healthcare, AI, and product experience, including a physician-founder who previously built apps with more than 50M downloads, a Head of AI with over a decade of research experience at MIT and Caltech, and a Head of Engineering who was among the earliest engineers at Figma.

Role Overview

This AI Engineer role centers on building, testing, and improving AI agents and machine learning systems for medical coding, billing accuracy, and broader revenue cycle workflows. You will also help create internal AI tooling and frameworks that support the development of these systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, experiment with, and assess AI agents and ML models in NLP to improve medical coding, billing accuracy, and related revenue cycle management tasks.
• Help develop internal AI frameworks that make it easier to build and scale AI agents and machine learning models.
• Work closely with a compact, high-impact team and stay engaged with Operations and customers to drive practical product improvements.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience in ML, AI, or data science within a production environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python-based ML/NLP tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and Transformers, including libraries used with Hugging Face models.
• Deep expertise in AI/ML with a strong focus on NLP, including preprocessing, embeddings, and transformer-based approaches.
• Practical experience with LLMs, including supervised fine-tuning, use of AI frameworks, and evaluation methods for LLMs.
• Preferred background in high-growth startups.
• Helpful if you have experience in regulated sectors and/or healthcare.
• AWS experience is considered an advantage.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a compensation range of USD 150,000 to USD 250,000 per year, along with equity.

Healthcare coverage includes Platinum PPO medical insurance, with the company paying 100% of employee premiums and 80% for dependents. Dental and vision are also covered under Platinum PPO, with the company covering 90% for employees and 75% for dependents in both cases.

Additional perks include $250 per month for gym memberships, classes, and similar wellness expenses, plus $2,000 per year for learning and development costs such as courses and mentorship.
