Role overview

The Survey Manager (Projects)-Tx leads land and route survey work for transmission projects. The position is responsible for planning and executing surveys with precision, ensuring regulatory and environmental compliance, and supporting project planning, land acquisition, and approvals. The role also uses modern survey methods and GIS tools to improve data quality, manage route constraints, and help deliver projects on time and within cost.

What the role involves

This position covers end-to-end survey planning, field execution, quality checks, stakeholder coordination, technology adoption, risk handling, documentation, and team guidance. The selected professional will work closely with internal project teams and external authorities to keep survey activities accurate, compliant, and aligned with project requirements.

Survey planning and field execution

Plan, coordinate, and supervise transmission line surveys, including route alignment, profiling, and tower spotting.

Use suitable survey methods such as Total Station, GPS, and LiDAR to improve precision and make the survey process more effective.

Carry out feasibility checks, identify right-of-way constraints, and suggest alternate options to reduce project risk.

Compliance and quality control

Follow applicable industry standards and statutory survey rules, including IS Codes and CBIP manuals, to maintain accuracy.

Secure required clearances, verify land ownership records, and keep complete documentation needed for approvals.

Strengthen data integrity through verification surveys and cross-checking of GIS and topographical inputs.

Coordination and stakeholder management

Work with local authorities, landowners, and regulatory bodies to support land acquisition and right-of-way approvals while reducing disputes and delays.

Provide accurate survey inputs to project, engineering, and execution teams to help resolve technical issues and optimize designs.

Oversee survey agencies and contractors by reviewing deliverables and ensuring they meet defined specifications.

Technology and innovation

Improve survey accuracy and productivity by using drone surveys, GIS mapping, and 3D terrain modelling.

Evaluate new tools and automate data collection and processing wherever possible to modernize survey workflows.

Risk handling and issue resolution

Identify encroachments, environmental constraints, and land acquisition challenges early and work toward timely resolution.

Close gaps between survey findings and actual site conditions by coordinating adjustments with engineering teams.

Documentation and reporting

Maintain geospatial records, topographical reports, land ownership details, and other survey documentation for compliance and future use.

Prepare reliable survey reports and terrain analysis to support decisions by project teams.

Team leadership

Assign responsibilities clearly, train team members technically, and ensure safety and quality standards are followed.

Encourage collaboration, share knowledge, and support continuous improvement in survey methods.

Education and experience

A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, or a closely related discipline is required.

The role calls for 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in survey planning and execution for transmission lines, infrastructure projects, or large-scale land surveying.
