Role overview
WinStar Group is seeking a seasoned Substation Testing and Commissioning Engineer to support current and future projects within the Project Management Division. The position reports to the Manager – Projects and focuses on delivering high-quality commissioning work in line with company expectations and project specifications.
What the role involves
You will be responsible for planning, carrying out, tracking, and controlling substation testing and commissioning work from start to finish. The job calls for strong field execution, coordination with stakeholders, and consistent compliance with quality and project standards.
Experience requirement
Candidates should bring 3 to 4 years of onsite experience in substation testing and commissioning.
Key responsibilities
- Visit project sites to understand technical and execution requirements.
- Prepare testing and commissioning schedules, method statements, and HSE-related documents.
- Perform testing and commissioning of substation equipment according to approved procedures.
- Compile test documentation and obtain approval from the client and consultant.
- Diagnose and resolve issues that arise during testing and commissioning work.
- Guide team members and supervise day-to-day work execution.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to keep work aligned and on schedule.
- Draft site visit notes and progress updates.
- Plan, monitor, and review testing activities throughout the project.
- Manage the issue, use, and tracking of test instruments and tools.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and disciplined worksite.
Technical expertise needed
The role requires practical exposure to current transformers, voltage transformers, CVTs, cables, and a wide range of switchgear including ACB, VCB, GIS, AIS, isolators, earth switches, MCCB, and busbars. Experience with power transformers and control and protection schemes is also essential, including CT/VT injection testing, trip logic, interlocks, synchronization, auto-reclose, stability, and sensitivity testing.
Qualification
A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering is required.
Additional skills
Applicants should understand power systems and electrical engineering fundamentals, have knowledge of protection relay testing, be comfortable using test equipment, and possess good computer literacy.
