Project Estimator

Role overview

This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Vaughan, Ontario for a Project Estimator focused on ICI and grocery retail construction work. The role centers on building accurate cost estimates by completing quantity take-offs, pricing materials and labor, and assessing subcontractor bids. Projects may involve civil site works, base building, and interior fit-out scopes.

What you will do

In this position, you will review drawings and specifications, build budgets, and help prepare tender submissions and proposals. You will work alongside project managers, site personnel, subcontractors, and clients to confirm scope, check pricing assumptions, identify savings, and reduce project risks. The role also requires ongoing coordination on estimate changes, cost questions, and bid outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Screen subcontractors in advance and assess all submitted bid packages.
• Prepare construction cost estimates for retail, commercial, and government projects.
• Handle cost-related questions from subcontractors and management.
• Work with architects to resolve drawing and specification issues.
• Attend site visits and walkthroughs before issuing formal quotations.
• Record and submit bids and budgets before deadlines.
• Coordinate with management on estimate revisions and project changes.
• Track multiple estimating assignments at the same time while meeting timelines.
• Maintain a record of estimates and actual final costs.
• Review cost overruns and use that information to improve future pricing.
• Evaluate subcontractor quotes and ongoing construction costs.
• Keep strong working relationships with subcontractors and support bid coverage on closeout days.
• Follow up on submitted bids with the construction manager and share final outcomes.
• Recommend improvements to the estimating workflow and build cost-effectiveness metrics for materials and methods.
• Carry out other duties assigned from time to time.
• Follow company policies as communicated.
• Report directly to the Senior Estimator.

Qualifications

• Solid budgeting and cost-control capability, with the ability to build and maintain reliable project cost models.
• Hands-on experience with construction estimating, including take-offs and drawing/specification review for civil site works, base building, and interior fit-out jobs.
• Clear communication skills for working with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
• Working knowledge of ICI construction methods, building materials, and industry standards; grocery retail experience is considered an advantage.
• Post-secondary training in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong analytical ability, organization, time management, and attention to detail, with the discipline to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work full-time on site in Vaughan, Ontario and contribute in a collaborative team environment.
