The role is focused on building strong relationships with customers by being visible across neighbourhoods and contributing to a positive impression of Great Places. Key duties

  • Keep estates, blocks and schemes clean, safe and in good repair to a consistently high standard.
  • Carry out routine cleaning tasks such as hoovering, sweeping, mopping, cleaning communal doors and glazed surfaces, wiping lights, dusting at high and low levels, and litter picking outdoors.
  • Make sure shared areas remain tidy and free from litter.
  • Complete health and safety inspections, checking communal spaces for combustible items and slip or trip hazards.
  • Test emergency lights, fire alarms and legionella systems, and escalate any concerns to the Compliance team.
  • Undertake small repairs and preventative maintenance in communal areas, including replacing bulbs, fixing door handles, removing weeds from hard standings and paths, jet washing, painting, moss removal, touch-ups to walls, graffiti removal and adjusting light timers.

Skills and experience needed

  • Experience in a similar caretaker or general maintenance role.
  • Ability to carry out practical handyperson tasks confidently.
  • Good IT skills, including use of PDAs.
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A positive, proactive and flexible attitude.
  • Awareness of site health and safety for self and others.

What we expect from you

  • Attendance at face-to-face, virtual and e-learning training sessions is an important part of the role.
  • Willingness to understand the challenges and opportunities within the communities Great Places serves.
  • Appreciation for lived experience in social housing.
  • Commitment to advocating for people and communities.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and act professionally at all times.

  • Recognition rewards for colleagues who go above and beyond.
  • Season ticket loans to help with discounted public transport travel.
  • Wage Stream access for savings support and early access to earnings.
