About inABLE
inABLE is a Nairobi-based nonprofit working to advance the independence of people with disabilities in Africa through assistive computer technology and digital accessibility. Since 2009, the organisation has set up assistive technology labs in schools for blind and visually impaired learners across Kenya and has supported more than 14,000 students. Its work also includes research, advocacy, policy engagement, and the annual Inclusive Africa Conference.
Role purpose
The Fundraising Coordinator will help grow and broaden inABLE’s long-term international funding base. This role focuses on securing grants and partnerships from foundations, institutional funders, companies, and philanthropists so the organisation can expand its digital inclusion work across Africa.
What you will do
- Develop and deliver a global fundraising approach that increases and diversifies income from foundations, institutional donors, corporates, and individual supporters across the US, Europe, Africa, and other regions.
- Take the lead on identifying and approaching funders whose priorities align with disability inclusion, assistive technology, education, and digital accessibility.
- Create and manage strong grant applications for project funding and unrestricted support, turning impact evidence and beneficiary stories into convincing funding cases.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with an active donor portfolio through timely follow-up, accurate reporting, and compliance that supports renewals and larger contributions.
- Develop partnerships and consortium opportunities with INGOs, disability-focused organisations, technology companies, and development actors to access larger multi-partner funding.
- Work with programme and finance teams to prepare budgets and supporting documents that are accurate, fully costed, and compliant with donor requirements.
- Track and review global funding opportunities such as grants, contracts, and corporate partnerships, and support internal decisions on which opportunities to pursue.
- Use the Inclusive Africa Conference and inABLE’s wider thought leadership to build visibility with funders, nurture prospects, and attract sponsorships.
- Oversee fundraising systems and workflows, including the CRM, donor pipeline, reporting dashboards, and approval processes, to improve consistency and output.
- Help build a fundraising mindset across the organisation by guiding colleagues to spot funding leads and shape ideas into fundable proposals.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant area such as communications, development studies, business, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in institutional fundraising, development, or partnerships in the NGO or social enterprise sector; candidates with 3 or more years of highly relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
- A strong history of winning grants in the five- to six-figure range from international foundations, institutional donors, or corporates, while managing multiple deadlines.
- Excellent written English with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and analytical proposals and reports.
- A solid grasp of the international philanthropy space, ideally with exposure to disability inclusion, education, or technology-for-development funders.
- Good knowledge of the African development context and networks; fundraising experience for Africa-based programmes is an added advantage.
- Experience working with a CRM to manage donor pipelines and data.
- Comfortable presenting and building credibility with donors, boards, and steering committees across different cultures.
- Strategic, adaptable, resilient under pressure, collaborative, and able to take ownership of work.
What we offer
- The chance to contribute to meaningful change for persons with disabilities across Africa.
- A collaborative, mission-driven team based in Nairobi with international partnerships.
Safeguarding and inclusion
inABLE follows a zero-tolerance approach to sexual exploitation and abuse. Employment offers will depend on background checks and compliance with PSEA as well as child and adult safeguarding policies. The organisation is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Women and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application instructions
Applicants should send a CV of no more than 3 pages and a cover letter of no more than 1 page. The cover letter should show fundraising results, salary expectations, and availability, and should be sent with the subject line “Fundraising Coordinator Application”.
