Design Coordinator

Role overview

John Paul Construction is looking to add a Design Coordinator to its Dublin project team as the business continues to grow. The company promotes teamwork, fresh ideas, and the use of modern tools and technology to keep improving project delivery.

This position is based in Dublin and will be an important part of the project operations. The ideal candidate will bring a background in design together with hands-on experience in coordinating design work on construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Work alongside the site team to coordinate setting out for the project, with close attention to the alignment of architectural and engineering information.
• Liaise with the site team to coordinate utilities and services between mechanical and electrical engineers and the relevant utility providers.
• Support the Project Manager and Site Manager in building and maintaining the information requirements schedule, issue information to the architect and/or engineer as needed, and track progress or issues against the contract programme.
• Manage the technical submittal process for all required project components, including setting up and maintaining a system to monitor submittal status in line with the contract timeline.
• Review the technical submittal tracker regularly and keep the Project Manager informed of progress, delays, or other concerns.
• Prepare and update the procurement tracking schedule using approved technical submittals and, where relevant, approved costs, ensuring it stays aligned with the contract programme.
• Respond quickly to queries raised during the contract period and make sure all questions are logged clearly and efficiently.

Candidate profile

Applicants should have a design-related background and experience handling design coordination or design management responsibilities. The role also calls for strong organisational ability, sound judgement, and the confidence to work independently in a fast-moving project environment.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of industry experience working as a Design Manager on commercial, residential, data centre, or industrial projects.
• A relevant third-level qualification in Engineering or Architecture.
• Prior experience with a main contractor is an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail, along with solid planning and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet demanding deadlines.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both colleagues and clients.
