Data Scientist

Role Overview

This position focuses on turning data into practical business insight by using advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and machine learning. The Data Scientist will help create AI-driven solutions that support enterprise decision-making and improve business outcomes.

What You Will Do

• Work with enterprise stakeholders to define the approach for new AI initiatives and solution planning.
• Develop, launch, and maintain AI models and related solutions on an ongoing basis.
• Support model documentation, governance, compliance, and lifecycle maintenance.
• Explore modern modeling methods and AI techniques to strengthen prediction quality and stay current on industry trends.
• Build and sustain productive relationships with internal partners to help deliver enterprise-wide solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or Economics is required. The role also calls for at least 2 years of experience building advanced models using machine learning, segmentation, time series analysis, and similar analytics methods.

Preferred Background

A master’s degree or PhD in a relevant discipline is preferred. Candidates with 3+ years of professional experience in model development and analytics are especially encouraged, particularly those with exposure to marketing, bank card, credit card, consulting, retail, or financial services environments.

Work Setup and Reporting

This role reports to a manager or higher and has no direct reports. The work setting is a normal office environment with remote or hybrid flexibility. If the employee lives within 60 miles of a Bread Financial office, they are required to work onsite 3 to 4 days per month.

Travel and Work Conditions

Travel may be required up to 5% each quarter. The role also requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, hear effectively, remain seated for long periods, type and write, stay focused in fast-moving or high-pressure settings, and complete work in environments with productivity targets. Compensation

The standard salary range for this position is $87,900 to $159,200 per year. Pay may vary based on location, education, experience, and skills. Location-specific ranges include California ($101,000-$198,900), Colorado ($87,900-$167,100), New York ($96,600-$198,900), Washington ($92,200-$183,000), Maryland ($92,200-$175,100), Washington DC ($101,000-$183,000), Illinois ($87,900-$175,100), New Jersey ($101,000-$183,000), Vermont ($87,900-$159,200), Ohio ($87,900-$159,200), Maine ($87,900-$159,200), Connecticut ($96,600-$175,100), and Virginia ($87,900-$159,200).

Work Authorization

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future sponsorship. Candidates holding an F-1 student visa are not eligible for this role.

Benefits and Time Off

Eligible full-time associates working 30 hours or more per week receive medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits, including basic and optional life insurance plus short- and long-term disability. Coverage starts on the date of hire, except for disability coverage, which has a 6-month waiting period. Eligible parents can receive 6 weeks of fully paid parental leave after a 180-day waiting period. New hires can enroll in the 401(k) plan immediately.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Flexible Time Off is available and may require manager notice and approval before use. Paid Sick and Safe Time is provided at hire and each subsequent calendar year: 80 hours for most associates, while Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before FTO is approved. Associates may also buy company stock during June and December offering periods, and they are eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
