Role overview
This position is responsible for keeping the organisation’s cyber security and network environment running effectively, securely, and in line with business priorities. The role also includes delivering projects within agreed scope, budget, and timelines. The salary is competitive and includes benefits, along with extra pay for operational on-call duties and overtime.
About the department
You will be joining the Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team, which delivers end-to-end technology and change across four areas: Governance, Projects & Change, Delivery, and Technical Operations. The team supports both TFSUK and KINTO UK. BTS works to provide the right technology, guide the business through change using its expertise, and protect the organisation at all times.
What you will do
- Partner with colleagues to make sure security policies, processes, and controls are in place to protect the business.
- Handle daily cyber security operations to keep the organisation’s security posture strong.
- Support and maintain security tools and services, including next-generation firewalls, IPS, SIEM platforms, endpoint protection, and other security technologies, while also investigating incidents and breaches.
- Maintain and support the network estate, covering Layer 2 and Layer 3 infrastructure, LAN, WAN, internet, B2B links, remote access services, network load balancing, and Wi-Fi.
- Identify both external and internal threats, document incidents, suggest corrective actions, and implement fixes where appropriate.
- Contribute to cyber security initiatives and projects, including the introduction of new protections across the organisation.
- Review SIEM alerts and data feeds, and respond appropriately to detected threats.
- Install and run firewall and data encryption solutions to protect confidential information.
- Support the implementation of security requirements such as access controls and technical audits.
- Assess risk on an ongoing basis and report findings to the line manager to support informed decisions.
- Analyse threat patterns and improve monitoring tools and platforms where needed.
- Write, update, and review security policies and controls to match business needs.
- Manage incidents and service requests in line with service level agreements.
- Research emerging cyber security products, practices, and standards.
- Apply patches to security devices promptly and remediate vulnerabilities to maintain strong protection.
- Carry out daily checks on the security environment to help prevent downtime, breaches, and network weaknesses.
- Maintain operational policies, procedures, and standards that support day-to-day business needs.
- Create clear system documentation so others can cover the role when required.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning, testing, and maintenance.
- Help design system solutions based on business requirements and technology developments.
- Manage small works requests according to defined procedures.
- Work with third-party providers to ensure support, supply, and maintenance services meet expectations.
- Provide specialist technical input into the planning and development of new systems and projects.
- Keep IT equipment inventory records accurate and up to date.

To succeed in this role, you should bring solid hands-on experience in cyber security and network operations, particularly with the following:
- Palo Alto firewalls and related next-generation services
- Endpoint detection and remediation
- Cyber security analysis tools and software
- L2/L3 network infrastructure support and development
- Qualys vulnerability management
- Aruba Wi-Fi
- Cisco Nexus switching
- Network load balancing
- Third-party penetration testing
- Incident management
- Data security
