About the role
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is seeking a skilled Advisor – Bond to contribute to assurance work, performance monitoring, and machinery of government duties within the tenancy bond environment. This role is suited to someone who can work across teams, improve ways of working, support change, and help deliver stronger outcomes.
This is a 12-month fixed-term position based in Porirua, Wellington. The salary range is $75,114 to $88,266, plus KiwiSaver and wellness benefits.
In this position, you will partner closely with the Principal Advisor Bond and assist with important work such as Official Information Act responses, complaints handling, Ministerial requests, and monitoring sensitive matters. You will also support the Building and Tenancy team’s regulatory stewardship goals and help the Tenancy Leadership Team deliver high-priority projects, including ABODE system improvements and benefits delivery.
The role requires strong business judgement and regulatory understanding. You will work with the tenancy regulatory system, Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery, MBIE, and other stakeholders to make sure tenancy processes are well designed, clearly documented, efficient, and aligned with good practice. You will also take ownership of practice and business-owner tasks and represent the branch on initiatives that influence the wider tenancy system.
Key responsibilities
- Support assurance activities and performance monitoring within the tenancy bond system.
- Assist with machinery of government responsibilities linked to tenancy bond operations.
- Prepare and manage responses to Official Information Act requests, complaints, Ministerial correspondence, and sensitive case monitoring.
- Contribute to regulatory stewardship work and help advance Building and Tenancy objectives.
- Support delivery of priority projects and system enhancements, including ABODE improvements and benefit delivery.
- Work collaboratively across MBIE, Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery, and other stakeholders to improve tenancy practice.
- Help ensure processes are efficient, documented, well governed, and consistent with best practice.
- Lead and deliver practice and business-owner activities on behalf of the branch.
- Represent the branch on projects and initiatives affecting the wider tenancy system.
Skills and experience required
- Working knowledge of the tenancy regulatory system and tenancy law.
- Experience with process documentation, methodologies, and case management systems.
- Understanding of change management and quality management systems.
- Strong strategic thinking, sound risk awareness, and practical problem-solving ability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders at different levels.
- High levels of integrity and good judgement when handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong project planning and prioritisation capability.
- A cooperative, adaptable approach with the ability to build trust quickly.
- Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
