About the company
GR Engineering Services Limited (GRES) is a well-established engineering consultancy and contracting business focused on delivering high-quality design and construction solutions for the mining and mineral processing sector. The organisation combines the stability of a large ASX-listed company with a close-knit, supportive culture, and its work is driven by collaboration, trust, and a commitment to strong outcomes.
With a large project pipeline and continued business growth, the company is seeking talent across multiple areas. Team members are given meaningful responsibility, early opportunities to stretch and learn, and close guidance from experienced leaders.
The opportunity
GRES is looking for a practical and motivated Trainee Designer to join its Brisbane CBD office. This role suits someone with a strong interest in mineral processing, a willingness to learn, and a desire to contribute to significant projects across a range of commodities.
You will work as part of a collaborative team and receive mentorship from experienced designers and engineers across different disciplines and projects. The role is designed to help you build the technical and professional foundation needed to move your career forward quickly.
What you'll learn and do
During the trainee period, you will gain exposure to multiple areas of design within the business and develop hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle. You will also work alongside project managers to better understand what is involved in delivering work on time and within budget.
Key learning areas
- Preparing 2D and 3D design outputs using CAD tools.
- Applying engineering standards and specifications to carry out design tasks.
- Supporting designers and discipline engineers with preparation work.
- Keeping the project team updated, raising issues when needed, and joining team meetings as required.
What the company is looking for
Ideal candidates are curious about mineral processing, eager to see ideas turn into real-world outcomes, and comfortable working in a team environment. The company is seeking people who are self-driven, open to challenges, and interested in building a long-term career as a draftsperson or designer.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a relevant TAFE qualification, Certificate IV, or Diploma in Engineering, Design, Drafting, or a similar field. Australian or New Zealand citizenship and full working rights are required at the time of application. Candidates without unrestricted working rights will not be considered.
Desired background
Experience with 3D parametric software and AutoCAD is helpful, but not mandatory. Strong written and verbal communication skills, solid computer skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are also important.
What to expect
This opportunity offers real responsibility, meaningful project exposure, and the chance to grow technically, professionally, and personally. After the trainee period of up to 2 years, there may be a pathway to career progression within GRES. Additional training and courses in specialised design software are also provided, along with access to a wide range of design disciplines and project teams.
Benefits and workplace support
- Weekly pay with attractive remuneration.
- Employee Assistance Program for employees and their families at no cost.
- A collaborative and supportive workplace with the tools needed to succeed.
- 24 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers.
- A friendly and encouraging team culture.
