Tool Room Technician

Role Overview

This position focuses on keeping tools, molds, and related equipment in reliable working condition to support uninterrupted production. The role sits within a manufacturing environment and involves maintenance, repairs, documentation, stock control, and close coordination with the maintenance manager and production teams.

Key Duties

• Service, repair, and maintain tools and related equipment.
• Ensure materials, spare parts, and equipment are available when needed.
• Keep sufficient inventory of repair items and spare parts.
• Maintain accurate records for tools that are issued, received, or ordered.
• Update daily logs and records in line with standard operating procedures.
• Keep the stockroom and tool room organized and clean according to 5S practices.
• Place orders for parts and equipment and receive them as required.
• Support equipment breakdown response and troubleshooting when necessary.
• Contribute to production improvement through preventive maintenance activities.
• Escalate issues promptly to the maintenance manager for analysis and corrective action.
• Coordinate daily maintenance work and schedules with the maintenance manager.
• Attend breakdowns affecting production and carry out repairs in a professional and efficient manner.
• Protect and account for maintenance hand tools and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on molds and related accessories as per the maintenance plan.
• Work around the production schedule to complete repairs or preventive tasks without harming machine efficiency.
• Assist the changeover team when support is needed.
• Follow standard operating procedures at all times.
• Inspect molds and accessories, and report defects immediately.
• Maintain molds and accessories so production can continue smoothly, or request support when needed.
• Follow all 5S requirements and related activities as defined in SOPs.

Experience and Technical Background

The role calls for hands-on experience with plastics blow molding or injection molding equipment, along with molds and accessories. It also requires solid maintenance exposure, including mechanical troubleshooting, and familiarity with the plastic manufacturing process. Practical capability with welding, lathe, milling, grinding, and drilling machines is expected.

Education and Skills

A 3-year degree in a related discipline or an equivalent qualification is required. A technical training certificate in mold making is preferred, along with the ability to troubleshoot mold-related issues and read engineering drawings. The role also requires willingness to learn maintenance software for data entry and parts research, good written and spoken English, strong computer skills, and a professional approach when dealing with people at all levels, including confidential matters.
