Sourcing Manager

Role overview

This position supports Starbucks by building and steering advanced sourcing approaches, managing supplier relationships, and coordinating with internal teams to achieve strong performance across the assigned spending category. The role is expected to deliver measurable business outcomes that support both revenue growth and cost efficiency, while also advancing corporate social responsibility objectives. It involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, along with the creation of negotiation approaches that drive successful outcomes. Depending on the complexity of the market, the role may oversee annual spend in the range of $50 million to $200 million and could include mentoring or managing procurement colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Build and lead sophisticated sourcing plans for the relevant spend area, using strong awareness of market conditions, competitors, and major industry participants.
• Work with suppliers and internal networks to ensure top-tier performance and delivery against strategic goals.
• Support business growth, cost performance, and corporate social responsibility through sourcing decisions and execution.
• Create and apply negotiation strategies that help secure favorable outcomes.
• Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with strategic suppliers and key industry contacts.
• Track supplier performance, hold suppliers accountable, and drive continuous improvement.
• Use program and project management methods and tools to manage cross-functional initiatives effectively.
• Independently solve problems and make decisions related to strategic and tactical issues across the portfolio.
• Provide hands-on day-to-day oversight of projects and processes.
• Motivate team members and collaborate effectively across peer groups and functions.
• Apply proven procurement practices while leading teams and cross-functional groups.
• Mentor procurement analysts and support collaboration with procurement leadership as needed.
• Work with peer teams and leadership to identify and capture best-practice and leverage opportunities.

What the role requires

The position calls for practical knowledge of procurement methods, including sourcing strategy, supplier relationship management, risk management, and core legal concepts. Strong familiarity with RFX processes, market analysis, should-cost modelling, and standard legal safeguards such as confidentiality agreements is also needed.

The ideal candidate should be able to identify issues early, respond constructively, and move solutions forward with sound business judgment. The role also requires strong teamwork, the ability to influence at peer and management levels, and confidence working through complex strategy discussions.

Project management capability is important, including the ability to prioritize work and adjust quickly under pressure. Emotional intelligence, adaptability in ambiguous settings, and the ability to influence based on stakeholder needs and context are also key.

Clear communication is essential, including the ability to prepare concise verbal, written, and visual presentations and to align cross-functional stakeholders and management around strategy and execution. Curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning are valued, especially through external benchmarking, research, and engagement with sourcing subject-matter experts.
