Senior Software Engineer - Fullstack PHP

The product group is currently developing a cloud-based Digital Experience Platform with capabilities such as content management, optimisation, AI conversation, and platform services.

About the role

This permanent position is for a full-stack Senior Software Engineer within the Product Engineering team, with a primary focus on the flagship content management system, Matrix. The role is open to candidates based on the east coast of Australia and follows a hybrid working model.

What you'll do

• Contribute to the development of the digital experience platform as part of a small engineering squad of 3 to 8 people.
• Design and improve reliable application code that satisfies technical and product needs.
• Work with teammates to define user stories, acceptance criteria, and effort estimates.
• Support junior engineers and collaborate with more senior colleagues when needed.
• Create and keep technical documentation up to date.
• Help team leads and engineering managers shape and deliver technical roadmaps.
• Promote strong engineering practices, high code quality, and sound architecture across PHP, AWS, and GitLab CI/CD workflows.

Required experience and skills

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining large-scale software products.
• Strong full-stack capability with deep PHP expertise and solid experience in AWS.
• Practical knowledge of infrastructure as code, relational databases, DevOps practices, and frontend development.
• Experience working with GitLab and Docker containers, or comparable tools.
• Good grasp of testing principles and a track record of applying testing strategies to improve quality and reliability.
• Experience working in Agile environments such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Strong awareness of secure coding practices, including OWASP-aligned standards.
• Ability to work independently on major modernisation initiatives.

Nice to have

• Exposure to React, Node, GitLab, Dynatrace, or Cloudflare.
• Familiarity with content management systems, web development, and enterprise DXP environments.
• Experience with production PHP upgrades, software modernisation, or monolith decomposition.
