Role Overview

The Senior Purchase Engineer will take ownership of procurement planning, supplier management, cost control, inventory coordination, ERP documentation, import purchasing, compliance, and leadership of the purchase function. This position supports manufacturing continuity by ensuring the timely availability of materials, effective vendor relationships, and well-controlled purchasing processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and run procurement plans that align with production schedules and business requirements.
• Identify and purchase raw materials, fabricated parts, electrical items, and engineering consumables.
• Search for, assess, and onboard new suppliers while strengthening long-term partnerships with strategic vendors.
• Lead commercial discussions on pricing, delivery timelines, payment terms, and contractual conditions.
• Create, standardize, and improve procurement workflows to increase efficiency, accountability, and consistency.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for purchasing activities and make sure the team follows them.
• Build procurement plans using production forecasts and sales projections to ensure material availability.
• Track lead times closely and act early to reduce supply disruptions.
• Coordinate with Production Planning, Stores, Design, Quality, Finance, and Sales teams to keep material flow smooth.
• Develop alternate suppliers to reduce dependence on single-source vendors.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities and monitor performance using quality, cost, and delivery KPIs.
• Drive supplier improvement actions and support value engineering and cost-reduction efforts.
• Negotiate annual rate contracts where needed and keep a close watch on raw material market trends.
• Work with Stores to maintain balanced inventory levels and prevent both excess stock and shortages.
• Identify slow-moving and obsolete items and support inventory rationalization.
• Resolve purchase-related issues that may affect production schedules.
• Conduct weekly review meetings with the purchase team and key stakeholders to remove bottlenecks and improve processes.
• Maintain accurate purchase records, ERP updates, and supplier documentation.
• Track purchase orders from creation through closure and prepare procurement MIS reports for management.
• Handle import purchase orders, import documents, and the full import cycle, including coordination with overseas manufacturers/OEMs, CHAs, and customs clearance.
• Support GIN/GRN-related work where required.
• Follow company procurement policies, ethical standards, ISO expectations, and audit requirements.
• Ensure documentation is complete and ready for statutory as well as quality audits.
• Guide and mentor junior purchase executives, delegate routine work, and monitor team output and timelines.
• Support capability building and succession within the Purchase department.

Requirements

• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Energy and Power Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• At least 7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in electrical or electronic products.
• Strong knowledge of procurement processes, strategic purchasing, and vendor development.
• Hands-on familiarity with ERP platforms such as SAP MM, Oracle, or Tally.
• Proven ability to negotiate effectively and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience in team handling, coordination across departments, and leadership of junior staff.
• Exposure to import purchasing, import documentation, and customs clearance coordination.

Additional Information

This is a senior-level purchase role based in Mumbai Suburban, India. The position involves close collaboration with manufacturing, design, quality, stores, finance, and sales functions, along with regular process improvement and compliance responsibilities.

Compensation

The role offers an annual salary in the range of INR 4,75,000 to INR 6,50,000.
