Overview
The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking a Registrar to support administrative and program operations in Columbia, South Carolina. This role is centered on helping young people, families, and communities by contributing to the agency’s prevention and rehabilitation mission.
Mission
DJJ’s purpose is to improve and positively shape the lives of young people, strengthen family support systems, and help build safer communities through focused prevention and rehabilitation efforts.
Role Summary
The Registrar provides administrative and program support by organizing the work of assigned administrative staff, reviewing data and analysis, and offering information, guidance, and recommendations to assigned administrators when needed.
Key Duties
- Keep both paper-based and digital files, documents, and records organized and current so information is readily available and legally compliant.
- Handle incoming and outgoing questions from internal teams and outside stakeholders, including requests related to information and school records, and help connect the right parties with one another.
- Support the school district’s and agency’s mission and goals in day-to-day work.
- Demonstrate a professional, accountable approach by following school, agency, federal, and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Carry out additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma plus relevant program experience is required. A bachelor’s degree can replace the required program experience.
Additional Qualifications
- Working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures connected to the education division.
- Ability to use sound judgment and discretion.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
- Ability to understand, carry out, and communicate complex spoken and written instructions.
- Willingness to undertake limited overnight travel.
Important Role Conditions
This position involves responsibilities related to the custody, supervision, transportation, or recapture of youth under DJJ jurisdiction. The employee may have both direct and indirect contact with such youth. Required training for these duties will be provided.
