About Magic Bus India Foundation
Magic Bus India Foundation, established in 1999 by Matthew Spacie, works with young people to help them move beyond poverty and build meaningful, stable lives through education, skill-building, and access to employment. Its Childhood to Livelihood initiative supports adolescents and youth between 12 and 24 years of age with life skills, academic support, employability training, and job placement assistance. The organisation has reached over 1 million young people across 24 states and 75 districts in India through a network of 240 Community Learning Centres, 2342 schools, 80 Livelihood Centres, and 8 Entrepreneurship Incubation Centres. Its work is centred on employability, sustainable livelihoods, and entrepreneurship support for youth from underserved communities.
Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site position in Chennai for a Placement Officer. The role focuses on creating and strengthening relationships with employers, training partners, and educational institutions to generate job and internship opportunities for youth enrolled in Magic Bus livelihood programmes. The position includes coordinating campus placement efforts, aligning candidates with suitable openings, arranging recruitment drives, and monitoring placement results.
Key Responsibilities
The Placement Officer will also guide participants on career choices, prepare them for interviews, and support their readiness for the workplace. The role includes conducting orientation programmes and employability-focused training sessions, maintaining accurate placement data, following up after placements, and working closely with programme teams to ensure placement activities support broader livelihood goals.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have hands-on exposure to campus placements and employer outreach, along with the ability to develop and maintain productive partnerships with companies and institutions. Strong communication and people skills are essential, especially for working with young people from varied backgrounds. Experience in career guidance, training facilitation, employability development, soft skills, and workplace readiness will be valuable.
Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in education, social work, development studies, human resources, or a related discipline is preferred. The role calls for the ability to handle several placement activities at once, keep detailed records, and use basic digital tools such as MS Office, email, and spreadsheets for reporting. Experience in the non-profit or skilling space, particularly with youth or underserved communities, is an advantage. Candidates should be fluent in English and the local languages used in Chennai, and should be committed to inclusive and gender-neutral practices.
Organisation Focus
The work environment supports youth employability, livelihood creation, and entrepreneurship, with a strong emphasis on serving underserved communities through practical training and placement support.
