Role Overview
This is an 18-month fixed-term opportunity based in Brisbane to cover parental leave. The Payroll Specialist will take responsibility for payroll delivery across assigned business areas and serve as a subject matter expert for payroll tax, superannuation, and employment conditions. The role reports to payroll leadership and is focused on accurate, compliant, and timely payroll outcomes, along with ongoing process and systems improvement.
Key Duties
- Run payroll accurately and on schedule for the business areas assigned to the role.
- Ensure payroll activity meets legislative, statutory, and internal policy requirements.
- Provide expert guidance on payroll data, calculations, and employment conditions.
- Deliver responsive customer support while maintaining compliance and service quality.
- Investigate and resolve complex payroll questions, exceptions, and discrepancies.
- Support system setup, testing, and improvements to payroll processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in payroll tools and workflows.
- Keep detailed case records in Salesforce Case Tracker.
- Prepare and distribute updates about payroll changes and system-related issues.
Experience and Skills Required
- Sound knowledge of Australian payroll, taxation, superannuation, and related legislation.
- Experience working with enterprise agreements, including pay, leave, and allowance structures.
- Hands-on experience with SAP HR/Payroll systems.
- Advanced Excel capability, including macros and ad hoc reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with a practical, organised approach.
- Excellent accuracy and a strong commitment to deadlines.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to explain payroll topics simply.
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support colleagues and shared goals.
