About the role
CPKC is a transnational railroad linking Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The organization focuses on safe operations, community connection, economic growth, diversity, accountability, and employee development. In this role, you will support accurate and on-time payroll for employees in both Canada and the U.S., helping maintain trust and smooth operations across the business.
What you will do
- Run and maintain payroll processes for employees in Canada and the United States so payments are accurate and delivered on schedule.
- Follow internal policies and applicable government rules, while maintaining complete payroll records and reports.
- Investigate payroll variances by gathering, reviewing, and interpreting relevant information.
- Balance earnings, deductions, and gross-to-net results, then resolve any mismatches within strict deadlines.
- Check financial posting entries, track banking issues or rejected payments, and coordinate with banks to keep payroll moving.
- Review the Crew Management Application interface and correct or reprocess wage items when needed, especially for Running Trade Employees.
- Handle third-party payroll items such as taxes, union dues, and garnishments with accuracy and timeliness.
- Support year-end payroll activities and ensure tax filings are completed properly.
- Respond to employee payroll questions and deliver responsive customer service.
What you need
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent payroll experience.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), or progress toward one of these credentials, is an advantage.
- At least 2 years of full-cycle payroll experience using SAP or comparable payroll systems.
- Strong understanding of payroll rules and procedures, with preference for experience in both Canadian and U.S. payroll.

This role may be based in Winnipeg, Manitoba or Kansas City, Missouri.
