About the Role
This position is focused on livestock procurement and relationship management across Central and Northern Southland, with the base in Winton. The role is best suited to someone who lives in the region and understands the local farming environment and what it takes to succeed there.
You will partner closely with farmers to strengthen long-term working relationships, stepping into an established territory with existing goodwill and a proven record of service. The role involves handling the complete procurement cycle for a range of livestock, mainly bovine, along with sheep and dairy. That includes finding supply, agreeing pricing, arranging delivery, managing payment, and addressing any issues that may arise.
In addition, you will guide livestock planning and supplier engagement, share updates on market movements and emerging opportunities, and contribute to the development of products, programmes, and the brand. You will also help secure high-quality stock, support a dependable supplier network, identify new supply sources, and contribute practical ideas that support business growth and better on-farm outcomes.
About You
We are looking for someone with solid experience in the livestock sector, ideally with a strong background in store stock. You should be confident building trusted, long-term relationships that benefit both suppliers and the business.
Your background should support your ability to forecast supply, evaluate livestock quality, and manage procurement in line with market conditions and programme needs. Clear, professional communication is important, as is the ability to provide prompt support to suppliers while working within assurance programmes and animal welfare requirements.
Key Strengths Required
- Sound knowledge of livestock procurement, pricing, and transport coordination
- Ability to spot supply opportunities and turn market insight into action
- Confidence promoting programmes, values, and the brand across the region
- Comfort using digital tools and reporting systems to capture insights and monitor results
- Commitment to health and safety, animal welfare, and sustainable farming practices
