Housekeeper

Role overview

The Housekeeping Aide plays an important part in keeping the facility clean, sanitary, and safe for residents, employees, and guests. This position supports a healthy, pleasant environment by carrying out routine cleaning and sanitation duties across resident rooms, shared spaces, and staff areas. The role also contributes to infection prevention and helps uphold the organization’s cleanliness standards.

Key duties

• Disinfect resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, common areas, and other assigned spaces on a daily basis, following established infection-control and cleaning procedures.
• Remove trash and dispose of waste correctly, including medical and hazardous waste, in line with safety requirements.
• Perform floor maintenance such as sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming throughout the facility.
• Support laundry operations by collecting, sorting, and delivering linens and personal laundry so items are cleaned and returned promptly.
• Refill housekeeping essentials like soap, toilet paper, and towels in resident rooms and bathrooms.
• Notice and report maintenance or repair issues, including broken fixtures, malfunctioning equipment, or unsafe conditions, to the right department.
• Follow all health, safety, and infection-control rules, including correct use of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment.
• Interact with residents in a courteous and compassionate manner while working in living spaces, with respect for privacy and dignity.
• Use and care for housekeeping equipment properly so it remains in good working order.
• Take part in special cleaning assignments, including window cleaning, wall washing, and seasonal deep-cleaning projects across the facility.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
• Prior housekeeping experience in a healthcare or residential environment is preferred, though it is not mandatory.
• The role calls for strong attention to detail, good organization, time management, the ability to follow directions, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Candidates should be compassionate, respectful, professional, and able to protect resident confidentiality.

Physical requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs., as well as stand and walk for long periods.
• Manual dexterity is needed to complete cleaning tasks effectively.
• Ability to read and interpret documents and computer-screen data, and communicate clearly with employees and other stakeholders.
