Role Summary
This on-site Heating Air Conditioning Technician position is based in Christchurch. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining heating and air conditioning equipment for both residential and commercial customers. Day-to-day work includes identifying faults, carrying out inspections, completing preventative maintenance, and making sure systems run safely and efficiently. You will also handle service visits, record the work completed, explain findings and recommendations to customers, and follow all safety and regulatory requirements. The position requires close cooperation with teammates, proper care of tools and equipment, and a consistently high level of customer service.
Key Duties
- Install, repair, and service heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for residential and commercial clients.
- Diagnose equipment problems and determine practical solutions.
- Perform scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance to improve reliability and equipment life.
- Respond to service calls and complete work in a timely, professional manner.
- Explain issues, findings, and recommended actions clearly to customers.
- Keep accurate records of the tasks performed and the outcomes of each job.
- Work in line with applicable safety procedures, regulations, and industry standards.
- Use and maintain tools, equipment, and protective gear appropriately.
- Coordinate with team members to support smooth job delivery and strong service outcomes.
Required Background
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve HVAC system issues effectively.
- Working knowledge of plumbing as it relates to heating and cooling systems, including connections and fluid movement.
- Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance practices.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements, including correct refrigerant handling.
- Good grasp of electrical principles, including reading wiring diagrams and working safely around electrical components.
- Relevant technical certification or trade qualification in HVAC, or a related discipline.
- Commitment to safe on-site work practices and correct use of personal protective equipment.
- Strong communication skills, a customer-oriented approach, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel locally to customer sites when required.
