About the role
The GIS - Asset Data Technician role is responsible for keeping electricity asset records accurate, current, and reliable across Powerco’s business information systems. This position is available in either New Plymouth or Tauranga and is offered as a permanent, full-time role.
The right person will bring a positive, practical attitude and take pride in maintaining high-quality information that supports safety, service delivery, planning, engineering, asset management, and better decision-making.
What you will do
- Maintain and improve asset information within GIS and SAP by updating, checking, analysing, and managing geospatial data used across the business.
- Support operational, planning, engineering, and asset management teams by ensuring data is reliable and easy to access.
- Collaborate closely with your team, field crews, and wider electricity teams to strengthen workflows and information transfer.
- Help build strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and business partners from a range of backgrounds.
- Develop your understanding of Powerco’s electricity network and the areas where it is growing and changing.
- Contribute to a team culture that values customers, people, pride in work, and shared success.
Skills and experience required
Powerco is looking for someone who understands why accurate information matters and can see the bigger picture behind technical records and documents. The role may involve repetitive tasks, so a team-focused approach and steady commitment are important.
- Hands-on experience with ArcGIS tools such as ArcMap
- Ability to create and edit spatial datasets including points, lines, and polygons
- Experience managing GIS databases and shapefiles
- Exposure to SAP Enterprise Asset Management for asset data handling
- Strong communication and problem-solving ability
- Professional approach with discretion, tact, and confidentiality
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy
- Knowledge of the electricity sector
- Understanding of data basics and information management
