General Technician

Role overview

This position is part of the Engineering & Facilities team at a full-time, non-management level in Lusail, Qatar. The role focuses on keeping guest rooms, building systems, and public areas functioning safely and efficiently while maintaining a polished service environment.

What you will do

• Respond to guest repair requests and work with guests or customers to resolve maintenance concerns.
• Carry out preventive care on tools and kitchen or mechanical room equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
• Inspect tools, machines, and equipment visually to spot issues early.
• Move and use equipment such as tools and radios as needed for daily work.
• Find, operate, and use all equipment shut-off valves and building utility shut-offs.
• Track maintenance inventory and request parts and supplies when needed.
• Share daily work updates and issues with other shifts through approved communication methods.
• Apply working knowledge in areas such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic and electronic controls, carpentry, finish work, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building systems.
• Handle surface preparation, painting, minor drywall and wood trim repairs, light bulb and air-conditioning filter changes, and full cleanup after the work is finished.
• Test, diagnose, and complete basic repairs on plumbing, electrical items, cosmetic fixtures, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, switches, outlets, and other guestroom items.
• Program televisions and complete general housekeeping and engineering inventory tasks.
• Use the lockout/tagout process before starting maintenance work.
• Repair interior and exterior landscaping, including sprinkler systems.
• Use basic computer functions such as entering air handler schedules and adjusting temperatures.

Standards and working style

All maintenance tasks must be completed in line with company safety, security, and quality procedures. The role also requires professional grooming, proper handling of confidential information, protection of company property, and respectful guest service at all times. Strong teamwork, clear communication, and a helpful attitude are essential.

Physical and operational demands

The job includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing items up to 50 pounds without assistance, with heavier movement done with help when required. It also involves climbing stairs, service ramps, and ladders, along with bending, twisting, stooping, reaching overhead, and working below the knees. The position requires the use of computers to access and record work-related information.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with some background in general maintenance and in exterior or interior surface preparation and painting. Experience in hotel engineering or maintenance is considered an advantage. A driver’s license is required. No supervisory experience is needed.
