Role overview
This position is designed for a trainee who will build hands-on experience in safe plant operations, equipment handling, and process awareness. The role centers on learning how to operate within established safety guidelines, understanding plant hazards, following the permit-to-work system, and supporting day-to-day operational excellence.
Core responsibilities
- Track and support field equipment operations by following SOPs, SOCs, LLF checklists, and ODR-based readings.
- Carry out condition checks with portable instruments and handle minor troubleshooting and upkeep tasks.
- Work in coordination with the shift superintendent and panel executive to keep plant activities running smoothly.
- Move samples from the field to the laboratory as required.
- Maintain precise area and equipment records, logs, and documentation in a timely manner.
Safety and hazard management
- Look for opportunities to strengthen safety practices and contribute ideas that improve the safety culture.
- Manage hazardous substances and plant waste strictly according to approved procedures.
- Support contract workers so that safe work practices are consistently followed.
- Follow safe operating limits and encourage adherence to standard procedures.
- Act as an initial responder during emergencies and take prompt action to reduce risk to people and equipment.
- Coordinate with safety engineers and relevant stakeholders to report, investigate, and close safety issues quickly.
Coordination and compliance
- Partner with field executives and shift field engineers to help plant operations proceed without disruption.
- Maintain effective communication with contractors while ensuring work is executed safely.
- Approve permits only after verifying that the work area is free from hazards and meets safety expectations.
- Work with the safety in-charge to ensure permit procedures are followed and properly recorded.
Learning and improvement focus
- Continuously look for ways to improve operations and strengthen safety procedures.
- Keep building knowledge of current safety standards, TQM, EFQM, QCC, 5S, and other relevant technical practices.
Eligibility and education
Applicants should have a diploma in a relevant engineering discipline or a B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry.
The role is intended for candidates with 0 to 2 years of experience. Familiarity with plant areas and equipment is expected, and experience with ODR devices, basic troubleshooting, and minor maintenance work will be helpful.
Performance expectations
- Maintain at least 95% adherence to safety procedures and guidelines.
- Resolve and manage emergencies successfully every time.
- Contribute at least two safety improvement ideas each quarter.
- Complete all equipment monitoring activities in line with SOPs and SOCs.
- Propose and implement one improvement every month to reduce waste in chemical handling and waste management.
- Identify and support measures that improve equipment performance by about 5% over the year.
