Document Sourcing Specialist

Overview

This is an hourly contract opportunity for a remote Document Sourcing Specialist. The work pays between $20 and $66 per hour and typically involves a commitment of 10 to 40 hours each week.

What You’ll Do

• Find publicly accessible documents from government archives, academic collections, and open datasets.
• Check and record the license type for each source so usage and open-access rules are followed correctly.
• Keep detailed and accurate metadata, including source URLs and licensing information.
• Spot and escalate concerns involving ownership, unclear permissions, or content with restrictions.
• Work with teams across functions to solve sourcing and compliance issues.
• Keep current with open-data standards, licensing approaches, and sourcing methods.
• Share clear findings that help with compliance reviews and data-quality work.

• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex licensing and compliance information.
• Proven background in document sourcing, academic research, and public records searches.
• Comfort using open-source repositories and data platforms.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills.
• Ability to distinguish open-access materials from restricted content with accuracy.
• Self-directed work style suited to a fast-moving remote environment.
• Strong organization skills and the ability to handle large datasets efficiently.
