Design Assistant

Position Overview

This role is for a creative Design Assistant who will help drive product development from concept through to launch across several product categories. Working alongside the Melbourne team and international head office teams, the position contributes to developing trend-aware, globally relevant products that reflect the brand’s direction and customer expectations.

The right candidate will be well organised, adaptable, and focused on finding practical solutions. This person should have excellent attention to detail and be comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a busy environment while protecting quality, fit, and overall design standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Research seasonal trends in colour, fabric, silhouette, and wider fashion directions relevant to international markets.
• Produce CADs, technical sketches, flat drawings, and design specifications using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Support the creation of commercially viable product ranges and keep tech packs, specification sheets, and product records accurate and current in the PLM system.
• Work with overseas head office teams to build new styles, identify suitable fabrics and trims, and complete specifications and costing details.
• Coordinate sampling schedules, monitor critical path milestones, and help development progress toward launch and photoshoot deadlines.
• Assess samples and fittings, then revise comments and specifications to preserve fit, quality, workmanship, and design intent.
• Partner with Buying, Production, Supply Chain, and Marketing teams to support product launches, quality expectations, margin targets, and delivery schedules.
• Help resolve product development and production challenges early to avoid delays and protect product standards.
• Carry out market and competitor analysis to spot emerging trends, fabric innovations, and new product opportunities worldwide.
• Stay highly organised while managing several categories and fast-paced development timelines.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in Fashion Design and/or Product Development, ideally in fast fashion, online retail, or contemporary fashion brands.
• Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, fabrics, and manufacturing methods.
• Previous experience working with overseas head office teams and factories, especially in Asia.
• Confident using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Excellent organisational ability with the capacity to manage several projects and timelines at once.
• Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and problem-solving ability.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving, agile environment.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Product Development, or a related discipline is preferred.
