This is a short-term online volunteering opportunity focused on creating data visualisations for social media. The assignment is remote, task-based, and non-contractual. Volunteers are not UN Volunteers and do not receive monetary allowance or other entitlements. A certificate of appreciation is issued after successful completion, and the UNV team is not part of the selection or collaboration process.
Organisational context
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights works to protect human rights for everyone, support people in claiming their rights, and help duty-bearers uphold them. In the State of Palestine, the office monitors and reports on the human rights situation, provides technical assistance and capacity-building support, and helps coordinate humanitarian protection efforts. The communications team uses public information and verified data to share human rights developments with wider audiences.
Role context
The team regularly publishes information on conditions in Gaza and the West Bank, including casualties, displacement, detention, access restrictions, and breaches of international law. The role is intended to translate this data into simple, shareable visuals that can be used in social media and public communications.
Responsibilities
- Create static infographic cards for social platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and X/Twitter using the data and messaging supplied by the public information team.
- Develop short animated graphics or data videos, typically 15 to 60 seconds long, for social media channels.
- Follow the organisation’s visual identity standards in every deliverable.
- Revise work based on input from the Head of Communications and Head of Office, keeping to agreed timelines.
- Suggest fresh visual approaches for recurring themes so the communications output remains consistent and engaging.
Deliverables and timeline
- For each brief, short data videos or motion graphics should be completed within 5 working days where applicable.
- By the end of the assignment, an organised archive of assets should be delivered through the shared drive.
