About the role
EY is looking for multiple experienced Senior Consultants or Managers to join its Data Engineer team in New Zealand. The role focuses on building cloud-based data and AI solutions on Snowflake, along with related ecosystem tools such as Fivetran, dbt, Coalesce, Snowpipe, Power BI, Cortex and Streamlit. You will help shape solution architecture, design data models, create data ingestion and transformation pipelines, and develop interfaces that make complex data easier for users to explore and interact with.
This is a chance to work on innovative data engineering work while also supporting and guiding junior team members through mentorship and technical leadership. The position is based in Auckland or Wellington, depending on client needs, and flexible arrangements with reduced hours may be considered.
Key responsibilities
- Design Snowflake AI Data Cloud solution architectures.
- Plan and build data models, ingestion flows, and transformation pipelines.
- Connect Snowflake with supporting tools such as Fivetran, dbt, and Coalesce.
- Develop scalable and reliable pipelines on Snowflake using Snowpipe and related tools.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders to turn data needs into technical solutions.
- Guide and mentor junior data engineers and encourage continuous improvement.
- Keep pace with emerging data engineering and AI trends to maintain strong technical standards.
Skills and experience
- Hands-on experience implementing Snowflake AI Data Cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of data platform architecture patterns.
- Experience with data modelling approaches including third normal form, star schema, and wide-table designs.
- Ability to build robust data pipelines with tools such as dbt.
- Strong SQL query development skills.
- Experience integrating Snowflake with tools like Fivetran, dbt, Coalesce, and Power BI.
- Working knowledge of Snowflake Horizon Catalog is preferred.
- Exposure to Snowflake Cortex for data ingestion and AI use cases is advantageous.
- Ability to design and train machine learning models using Cortex based on business requirements.
- Programming experience in Python, Java, or Scala is a plus.
- Experience creating interactive interfaces with Streamlit or similar frameworks.
- Strong analytical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Background in technical leadership or mentoring is highly valued.
