Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (m/f/d)

Role overview

As a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician, you will support reliable operations of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure that keeps a data center running. The role focuses on hands-on troubleshooting, rapid problem resolution, and maintaining best-practice operations for systems such as UPS units, medium-voltage electrical equipment, generators, cooling systems, and related plant infrastructure at a specific site. You will report to the Data Center Engineering Operations Manager.

What the role involves

• Maintain strong safety standards and help build a safety-first culture across daily operations.
• Improve infrastructure performance by standardizing procedures and policies and meeting agreed operational targets.
• Support the goal of uninterrupted availability for customer-facing infrastructure.
• Work closely with internal teams and outside partners to ensure smooth operational delivery for AWS customers.
• Plan and carry out preventive maintenance for site-critical facility systems according to AWS procedures.
• Monitor and supervise facility operations through systems such as BMS, PMS, and walkthrough inspections.
• Support data center build-outs and retrofit activities.
• Be prepared to respond effectively to events that could affect customers on electrical or mechanical systems.
• Review incident reports, summarize trends periodically, and share recommendations with management.
• Prepare, revise, and maintain method statements, standard operating procedures, emergency response procedures, preventive maintenance plans, and other technical documentation for DCEO.

Work environment and physical demands

• The role may require working on a 24x7 schedule, depending on site needs.
• You must be able to work at height and use ladders.
• Shift duties can include physically demanding tasks.
• The environment may be noisy, so hearing protection may be required.

Basic qualifications

• Completion of high school or an equivalent qualification.
• Working knowledge of core electrical concepts and competencies.

Preferred background

• Previous exposure to data center engineering work.
• Understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC and control systems.
