Role overview
Hume City Council is hiring a Cloud Specialist to join its Information Technology team in Broadmeadows, Australia. This is a permanent full-time position with a strong focus on building, running, and improving cloud infrastructure that supports the organisation’s digital change agenda. The role suits someone who is highly organised, technically strong, and confident working across complex cloud environments.
Compensation
- Annual salary of $126,861.28, plus superannuation.
Key responsibilities
- Architect, roll out, and support cloud infrastructure that can scale across more than one cloud environment.
- Keep cloud systems and applications running smoothly by tracking performance, availability, and security.
- Use infrastructure-as-code methods to automate provisioning and configuration tasks.
- Investigate and fix cloud incidents and performance problems quickly and effectively.
- Help shape and uphold cloud security controls, compliance requirements, and operating standards.
- Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to enable deployments and integrations.
- Review cloud usage and tune resources to improve efficiency and control spending.
- Support cloud migration work while keeping business disruption to a minimum.
- Produce and maintain clear records of architecture, settings, and operational procedures.
- Keep up with new cloud tools and trends so improvements can be introduced continuously.
Experience and technical fit
The successful applicant should bring at least 3 years of practical cloud infrastructure experience, along with strong capability across major cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. The role also calls for solid knowledge of networking, security protocols, firewall administration, infrastructure automation, scripting, virtualisation, and container-based environments. Previous experience supporting enterprise cloud platforms and solving technical issues in detail-oriented settings is important.
Preferred background
Extra value will be given to candidates with multi-cloud experience, hands-on work with containers, CI/CD and release automation exposure, cloud cost optimisation experience, database management in cloud environments, monitoring/logging platform familiarity such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or Stackdriver, and recognised cloud certifications like AWS Solutions Architect or Azure Administrator.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline is required, along with 5–10+ years of IT experience and substantial hands-on cloud engineering or architecture exposure. The role also references ITIL 4 and a range of Microsoft certifications, including AZ-500, AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-102, AZ-700, and Azure Data Fundamentals, as well as awareness of higher-level cloud credentials such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional. Experience influencing strategy and leading complex initiatives is also expected.
