Assistant Baseball Coach

Position Overview

The Assistant Baseball Coach supports the day-to-day leadership, coaching, and administrative needs of the college’s intercollegiate baseball program. The role contributes to student-athlete development, academic progress, compliance with athletic rules, and competitive performance. The position works closely with the Head Baseball Coach, Athletic Director, and campus partners to build a program centered on discipline, sportsmanship, retention, and institutional pride.

Compensation and Time Off

This is a 10-month appointment with a salary of $23,930. In addition, the college provides housing with utilities included, which is estimated to be worth $9,000–$12,000 per year, and employee-paid medical insurance covered by the college, with an estimated annual value of $6,000–$10,000. The role also includes two months off during the summer and two weeks off during winter break.

Key Duties

The assistant coach helps guide the baseball program, supports student-athlete growth, and contributes to operational planning and competition readiness. This includes recruiting, practice coordination, travel planning, compliance support, equipment oversight, and event support.

Compliance and Operations

The role requires helping ensure the program follows institutional, NJCAA, and regional conference rules. The assistant coach also supports eligibility tracking, recordkeeping, game scheduling, travel arrangements, and safe use of baseball facilities and assets.

Student-Athlete Development

A major part of the job is encouraging academic success, attendance, persistence, wellness, leadership, and character development among student-athletes. The coach helps create an environment where student-athletes are supported both on and off the field.

Community and Program Growth

The position also involves representing the program in the community, building relationships with high schools and recruitment networks, assisting with fundraising and sponsorship efforts, and participating in outreach, camps, clinics, and related events.

Additional Responsibilities

The employee may be assigned institutional committee work, is expected to stay current on coaching methods and governing rules, must follow all applicable college, conference, and association policies, and may be asked to perform other related duties as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent mix of education and experience, and has experience in baseball coaching or in student-athlete development and recruitment. Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics operations and compliance requirements is important, along with strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities. The position also requires availability for evenings, weekends, and travel, as well as a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Education

A four-year degree is preferred.
