Assistant Accountant

Role overview

The Assistant Accountant will safeguard the accuracy and clarity of financial records, with a strong emphasis on general ledger management across a portfolio of Maisons and entities. The role supports essential accounting work such as bookkeeping, reconciliations, and reporting, and helps enable sound financial analysis and business decisions. It involves close coordination with the accounting function and other business teams to keep financial operations running accurately and on time in a fast-moving environment.

Accounting operations

• Handle everyday accounting tasks, including journal postings and account reconciliations.
• Partner with accounts receivable and accounts payable teams while remaining accountable for the completeness and correctness of the general ledger.
• Carry out month-end and period-end close activities, including preparing GL entries and examining trial balances.
• Keep financial records up to date for inventory, fixed assets, and other balance sheet items.
• Track important expense areas, including monthly rent and major operating costs.
• Prepare and validate bank reconciliations, ensuring all entries are posted correctly.
• Prepare monthly accruals and work with the Business Planning & Control team(s) on review and analysis.

Regulatory compliance and controls

• Ensure accounting practices follow relevant standards, tax rules, and internal company policies.
• Apply strong internal controls to protect the integrity of financial data.
• Assist with internal and external audits, tax submissions, and statutory reporting by preparing supporting documents and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

Financial reporting

• Prepare supporting schedules and reports used for financial statements and management review.
• Oversee accounting treatment for cost allocations, revenue recognition, and inventory-related transactions.
• Share financial data and business insights with FP&A and operational teams.
• Prepare monthly group reporting with a high standard of accuracy and completeness in GL data.

Process improvement and systems

• Use ERP platforms and BI tools to improve accuracy and operating efficiency.
• Spot opportunities to simplify and strengthen accounting workflows.
• Adapt to changes in systems, regulations, and business structures as needed.
• Contribute to special projects such as system upgrades and business process improvement initiatives.

Profile

• A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline is required.
• Professional qualifications such as CPA or ACCA are preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in accounting or audit is needed.
• Strong capability in Microsoft Excel is essential.
• Knowledge of internal controls and regulatory compliance is required.
• Working understanding of GAAP or IFRS, depending on the applicable framework, is expected.
• The role calls for strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability for routine accounting matters.
• High attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy are important for reliable financial reporting.
• A collaborative mindset and ability to work well across functions are required.
