Service Technician - NZ

Role overview

This position is suited to someone who enjoys working with electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and hydraulics, and wants to help keep wind turbines operating reliably. It offers the chance to support the shift toward renewable energy while building technical capability in a globally recognised sustainable energy business.

As a Service Technician, you will use your hands-on experience across electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic disciplines to support the maintenance and performance of wind farms in New Zealand. The company places strong emphasis on safety in every part of the job and provides technical training to help technicians grow into highly skilled specialists.

Work location and schedule

The role is based at Turitea WF and Tararua WF in the Palmerston North / Manawatū region. It is not a FIFO position, so candidates must already be based in the region or able to work there on a regular basis.

Working hours are 8 hours per day, with weekend on-call duty approximately once every 3 to 4 weeks. Travel is also part of the role, at an estimated 50 days per year.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance work while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards and meeting service targets.
• Perform scheduled inspections in line with company procedures, along with electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic troubleshooting and parts replacement.
• Support reliable turbine operation through condition monitoring systems and remote control tools.
• Keep the service vehicle in good order and ensure tools, materials, and spare parts are available by arranging replenishment when required.
• Assemble and service components according to current standards and work instructions, using internal or external cranes where needed.

Qualifications and skills

Candidates should come from an electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic trade and be eager to further develop their capabilities in these areas. Strong computer literacy is important, especially for using work tracking, monitoring, and documentation systems. Good written and spoken English is required, as well as a valid driver’s licence.

The role also calls for a serious commitment to health and safety, the ability to climb turbines and perform demanding physical work at height and in different weather conditions, willingness to travel to other sites when needed, and the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders. A practical, self-directed, and well-organised approach is also important.
