Role overview
The City of Leduc is looking for a permanent, full-time Payroll Administrator to join its Payroll team within Employee Services. This position is based at the Civic Centre in Northern Province, Sri Lanka and follows a 35-hour work week.
Compensation for this role falls between $71,453.20 and $89,307.40 per year.

What you'll be responsible for
Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, you will manage the daily verification and processing of payroll, benefits, and pension contributions. You will also be a key contact for employees who need help understanding deductions, enrollments, or pay-related questions, and you will work closely with Finance and Employee Services to keep Workday records accurate and current.
Core duties
- Run bi-weekly payroll for all city employees, making sure pay, statutory deductions, and payroll changes are handled accurately and in line with required rules.
- Complete annual payroll reporting and compliance tasks, including tax submissions and year-end filings such as T4s, T4As, and WCB annual returns.
- Respond to employee payroll questions with clear, timely, and practical support.
- Work with outside partners, union representatives, and agencies such as the CRA to support compliant payroll operations.
- Keep employee information secure and accurate in the HRIS platform, including routine audits to protect data quality and compliance.
- Look for ways to improve payroll processes, strengthen documentation, update policies, and enhance system tools.
- Step in to support other Total Rewards activities when required, including benefits, pension work, reporting, audits, and employee training.
Requirements and qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
- Payroll certification such as PCP and/or PLP from the National Payroll Institute.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in full-cycle payroll processing, benefits administration, or payroll accounting in a corporate setting.
- Working knowledge of provincial payroll rules, tax legislation, Alberta Employment Standards, and general benefits administration.
- Experience with HRIS tools; Workday experience is a strong advantage.
- Intermediate Excel ability, including pivot tables and formulas such as VLOOKUP, to review data and resolve differences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for explaining payroll details and deductions clearly.
- Sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and a strict approach to confidentiality when handling employee pay information.
- Experience in a unionized or municipal environment is considered an asset.
