Role overview
The Debug team is a multidisciplinary group bringing together mosquito biologists, data scientists, engineers, build technicians, and operations specialists. The team works on practical, large-scale ways to reduce the burden of mosquito-borne disease, including the deployment of Wolbachia mosquitoes in partnership with organizations around the world.
What you will do
- Work with teams across functions to identify, diagnose, and solve mosquito quality challenges.
- Plan and help run large-scale Wolbachia replacement and suppression initiatives with regional partners.
- Assess the biology and performance of newly developed mosquito strains through insectary and field-based testing.
- Evaluate how changes in rearing processes and equipment affect important output measures.
Minimum qualifications
- A PhD in Entomology, Biological Sciences, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in insect biology.
- Experience planning and implementing public health programs, pest-control interventions, or similar operational projects.
Preferred qualifications
- 3 years of experience in mass rearing mosquitoes or other insects, along with downstream quality assessment.
- Experience improving and measuring the rollout of mosquito interventions such as SIT, bed nets, or pesticides.
- Practical knowledge of DNA extraction and qPCR techniques.
- Comfort using Google Sheets, R, Python, or comparable tools for analytics and routine reporting.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment and adapt working hours when deadlines require it.
