About the Opportunity
Yew Point at Hodson Bay is a new eco-tourism resort being developed in a pristine natural setting on the shores of Lough Ree, just outside Athlone. As part of the Hodson Bay Group, this destination offers the chance to join the founding team and help shape a guest experience from the ground up.
The resort will be built across 140 acres of woodland, meadows and shoreline on the Yew Point peninsula, and will include 36 premium cabins, a restaurant and carefully planned communal guest areas. The project is rooted in sustainability, innovation and high service standards, with the aim of setting a new benchmark for environmentally conscious hospitality in Ireland.
This role offers the chance to build your career while contributing to the presentation and atmosphere of the resort from the outset, working in a team that values quality, creativity and respect for both people and place.
Role Overview
The resort is looking for a hands-on Landscaper who is dependable, practical and comfortable working outdoors to help develop, care for and improve the grounds at Yew Point.
This is a broad, active role that blends regular grounds maintenance with the chance to create visually appealing outdoor spaces around the cabins, guest facilities and wider property.
Working with the Groundskeeper and Maintenance Manager, you will contribute to daily upkeep as well as landscaping projects that enhance the appearance and function of the site.
Your work will support the cleanliness, safety and overall presentation of gardens, grounds and outdoor amenities, helping to create a strong first impression for guests.
The position requires someone who can work on their own initiative as well as collaboratively to support the property’s guest experience and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep lawns, gardens, planted areas, pathways, entrances and outdoor guest spaces maintained to a consistently high standard.
- Perform routine landscaping and groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, edging, pruning, planting, watering and seasonal maintenance.
- Help design and upgrade attractive outdoor areas around cabins, shared spaces and important guest-facing locations.
- Support natural landscape enhancements including planting beds, privacy screens, log walls and boulder features.
- Look after walking routes, lakeside sections, outdoor furniture, signage and decorative items.
- Maintain safe, tidy and hazard-free outdoor environments at all times.
- Use fertilisers, weed treatment and similar products safely and appropriately when needed.
- Operate, clean and care for gardening tools and equipment responsibly.
- Spot and report repair needs, safety risks or areas that require attention.
- Assist with wider property maintenance and landscaping initiatives alongside the Maintenance and Grounds teams.
Candidate Profile
You should bring prior experience in landscaping, gardening, horticulture or grounds maintenance, along with a genuine interest in hands-on outdoor work.
The ideal person will be physically capable of manual tasks, take pride in neat and well-kept surroundings, and have a solid working knowledge of plants, turf care and everyday garden maintenance.
We are looking for someone with an eye for detail and a creative approach to outdoor presentation and natural features.
You should be able to work independently when required, while also contributing positively to a team environment.
Reliability, flexibility, motivation and the ability to organise daily tasks effectively are important for this role.
A basic awareness of outdoor health and safety practices is also expected.
