About the role
Virtusa is looking for a Java Microservice Developer to join its Pune team and contribute to the development and deployment of modern application platforms. The role suits a hands-on engineer with strong experience in Java-based backend systems, cloud-native environments, and scalable microservice architectures.
Responsibilities
- Bring at least 5 years of relevant experience in application development, with a demonstrated history of delivering production-ready solutions.
- Work extensively with the Java technology stack and Kubernetes in day-to-day engineering tasks.
- Apply Java design patterns effectively while building maintainable and scalable software components.
- Design, develop, and deploy microservices on cloud-native platforms.
- Work with backend REST APIs and use Java 17 or newer for implementation.
- Support exposure to AI/ML-based analytics and reporting solutions where required.
- Create and maintain build scripts as well as CI/CD pipelines to support reliable software delivery.
- Operate across both on-premises and public cloud environments such as OpenShift and AWS.
- Contribute to quality engineering practices including TDD, BDD, unit testing, and Selenium-based automation.
- Collaborate effectively in a global delivery environment and communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in application development with a strong delivery record.
- Deep practical knowledge of Java and Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of Java design patterns.
- Proven experience building and deploying microservices on cloud-native platforms.
- Working knowledge of Java 17+ and backend REST API development.
- Familiarity with Gradle, ECS, ELK, AppDynamics, and Splunk is an added advantage.
- Experience with build automation and CI/CD pipeline creation and maintenance.
- Exposure to cloud environments, including both on-premises setups and public cloud platforms like OpenShift and AWS.
- Understanding of quality-as-code approaches such as TDD, BDD, unit testing, and Selenium.
- Experience working in global teams is preferred.
- Prior exposure to payments systems and processes will be beneficial.
- Comfort with Agile working practices and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional information
This position is based in Pune, India. The compensation range provided is INR 5,00,000 to 14,00,000 per year.
