About the organisation

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) was created in 1990 by the Victorian State Government to support the growth of Victoria’s leading athletes. It operates as a private trustee company, with governance provided by a board appointed by the Victorian Minister for Sport.

Based at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park, the VIS recently refreshed its headquarters in February 2023, creating a modern workplace for athletes and employees. As a non-residential institute, it makes use of Melbourne’s strong sporting infrastructure so high-performance athletes can live and train in Australia’s sporting capital.

The VIS works alongside National Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Associations to deliver daily training environments that support the National High Performance Sport Strategy. Its facilities and team help prepare current and future Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and world champion athletes.
