Role overview
Mister Zimi is seeking a hands-on garment technician to support the CORE product stream from its production base in Byron Bay. Reporting to the Head of Production & Sourcing, this role focuses on the technical side of womenswear development, with an emphasis on fit, construction, grading and production accuracy.
You will work closely with the product development team across the full pre-production journey, including fit sessions, spec creation, fabric testing, bulk inspection follow-up and maintenance of the product manual. The role suits someone who takes pride in detailed execution and understands that quality lives in the finer points.
Core responsibilities
Fit and construction
- Take part in fit sessions and help shape decisions related to garment fit, function and consistency.
- Spot construction and quality concerns during fittings and communicate required changes clearly.
- Keep fit documentation current and accurate through to approved fit and bulk dispatch.
- Develop specifications from original samples, photographs and mixed-reference styles.
- Review factory digital patterns and relay fit and grading corrections with accuracy.
Production and technical
- Measure fit samples and bulk garments against approved specifications.
- Oversee care instructions, labelling and packing methods so bulk goods retain quality through delivery.
- Review in-house and third-party bulk inspection outcomes and escalate findings to the CORE Product Developer.
- Test fabrics and garments in bulk and act quickly on any issues uncovered.
- Approve grading specifications in line with Mister Zimi standards.
- Manage tasks within the critical path and prioritise work effectively.
Compliance and systems
- Maintain product compliance practices and international regulatory requirements.
- Regularly update the Mister Zimi product manual to align with best practice and changing regulations.
- Record fabric details and fibre content information carefully for online publication.
- Assist with internal AI-supported report checking initiatives as they are introduced.
- Carry out local quality checks when needed.
- Keep daily communication flowing with offshore suppliers to support smooth development progress.
- Work in line with the company’s social, ethical and environmental policies.
- Enter internal system data accurately and diligently.
Sourcing and margin
- Identify fabrics and trims that support the design vision while meeting margin targets.
- Cost new styles before sampling begins so development starts on a commercially sound footing.
- Attend overseas trade fairs and visit suppliers, factories and mills when required.
- Lead new fabric development from concept using bought samples or visual references to create base fabrics with mills.
- Approve and maintain the physical sample library, including swatches, approved samples and trim cards.
- Track sampling spend and keep development activity within budget.
Relationships
This role works closely with the Head of Production & Sourcing, Senior Product Developer - Core, Senior Product Developer - Emerging Categories and the Product Manager.
What you bring
- At least 5 years of womenswear experience, including work in woven categories.
- Strong knowledge of grading and patterns, with the ability to identify issues early.
- Solid understanding of garment construction across woven fabrics.
- Good grasp of quality assurance and garment compliance standards.
- Practical knowledge of pre-production processes and critical path management.
- Experience working with offshore suppliers and coordinating across time zones.
- Prior exposure to digital pattern tools.
- High computer literacy and confidence using internal systems.
