About the Company

Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) began operating in Sydney in 1978 and is a fully owned subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation, Japan. The company supports Australia’s energy, mining, industrial, and social infrastructure sectors by combining local engineering and project delivery with Toshiba’s global technology base. Its work spans energy and industrial product sales, engineering, project management, on-site installation, construction, and maintenance. TIC has built a strong reputation in power generation, transmission, and distribution through products known for quality, reliability, and long service life. Its energy portfolio includes turbines, generators, transformers, battery storage systems, and electrical systems, all contributing to a lower-carbon future.

About the Role

This is an opportunity for an early-career Electrical Engineer to join the Power Generation team and contribute to the maintenance, refurbishment, and performance improvement of large synchronous generators used across thermal and hydro assets in Australia. The position provides practical exposure in active plant settings, with support from experienced engineers and direct collaboration with Toshiba’s international engineering teams. The role includes technical troubleshooting, site-based work, outages, and commissioning, with the aim of building specialist capability in generator systems.

What the Role Involves

  • Assisting with the identification and resolution of technical issues on synchronous generators.
  • Supporting site activities such as outages, inspections, and commissioning tasks.
  • Helping develop outage scopes and plans.
  • Contributing to technical documentation, including outage reports and inspection reports.
  • Preparing and assisting with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Supporting commissioning-related documentation.
  • Liaising with workshops and subcontractors during refurbishment works.
  • Keeping technical records and site issue logs up to date.
  • Assisting in client discussions and technical conversations.
  • Following company HSE and quality procedures while working safely.

What You Should Bring

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Approximately 1 to 3 years of experience in power, heavy industry, or a comparable environment.
  • Interest in rotating machinery, generators, or high-voltage systems.
  • Good analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Confident communication skills and a proactive approach.
  • Readiness to travel and support site work during outages.
  • Prior exposure to generators, HV systems, or industrial sites is helpful, but not mandatory.

Development Opportunities

  • Hands-on knowledge of synchronous generators and related equipment.
  • Practical experience with excitation, protection, and control systems.
  • Capability in site engineering activities such as inspections, testing, and commissioning.
  • Improved technical communication with customers and stakeholders.
  • A clear pathway toward greater independent engineering responsibility.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Australian driver’s licence.
  • Ability to travel, including longer site assignments and occasional overseas travel.
  • Flexibility to support outage schedules, including extended working hours when necessary.
  • Willingness to be stationed on-site for 4 to 6 months each year.
