Database Engineering Team Manager

About the Role

Squarespace is looking for a Database Engineering Team Manager to lead a group that supports the company’s core backend infrastructure. The Databases team oversees systems such as MongoDB, CockroachDB, and Kafka, and builds reliable, scalable services that support both internal engineering partners and customers using the Squarespace platform. The team is focused not only on today’s operational needs, but also on creating a strong foundation for long-term scalability, reliability, and a smooth developer experience.

This position is based in Dublin and follows a hybrid schedule, with work from the Dublin office three days each week. You will report to the Databases Senior Engineering Manager.

What You’ll Do

• Coach and support software engineers so they can work effectively even when priorities or requirements are unclear.
• Define the team’s scope and help recruit a well-rounded engineering group that can perform strongly together.
• Support the growth of direct reports through frequent one-on-one conversations and practical feedback.
• Recognize achievements in ways that strengthen morale and reinforce a healthy team culture.
• Review team practices and adjust workflows to improve efficiency and overall effectiveness where needed.
• Build a strong understanding of the systems under your team’s responsibility and use that knowledge to make sound architectural choices.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering to shape, communicate, and deliver a strong roadmap.
• Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Design, Marketing, Data Science, and Business Operations.

What We’re Looking For

• At least 3 years of recent experience leading a product engineering team of four or more engineers.
• 7 or more years of industry experience delivering applications across large codebases with many contributors.
• Comfort explaining, documenting, and presenting technical ideas clearly to non-technical audiences.
• A solid technical base that helps you weigh the tradeoffs involved in product engineering decisions.
• Experience building an inclusive environment where psychological safety and technical excellence both matter.

Compensation

The cash compensation range for this role is €93,000 to €143,000 per year. Final base pay depends on job-related factors such as skills, experience, and location. In addition to cash compensation, eligible employees may receive the opportunity to purchase company common stock through options.
