About the role
One Stop, which operates as part of the Tesco group, is seeking a Customer Service Assistant for its Morecambe store. This position is in a busy retail setting where priorities can change throughout the day. The role centers on helping the store run smoothly by delivering strong customer service, restocking products, handling payments, and keeping the shop floor presentable.
Because customers are at the core of the business, you will also help improve the service experience through coaching on the job and acting on feedback. Part of the role is contributing to a store environment that is safe for colleagues and shoppers.
What you will do
- Provide friendly, confident service and build good rapport with customers.
- Encourage shoppers to share feedback through the in-store “have your say” survey.
- Support all parts of the store, including online orders, tills, replenishment, vending, and stock tasks, so customer needs are met.
- Use the training provided to work safely and follow company procedures.
- Take part in seasonal, local community, and charity activities that help create an inclusive atmosphere.
- Stay aware of store performance and understand how your work contributes to profit.
- Represent the company values, welcome everyone, and follow store policies consistently.
- Clock in and out correctly at the start and end of shifts to ensure accurate pay.
- Protect yourself, colleagues, and customers by following security processes and using safety equipment where available.
- Apply the Think 25 policy when selling age-restricted items.
- Respond promptly to self-checkout support requests and clearly explain any actions being taken.
- Keep the store tidy, organised, and free from blocked aisles.
- Where needed, step in to lead a shift when the Shift Leader or Store Manager is unavailable.
- Follow all required training so the store remains safe and legally compliant.
- If the store includes a Post Office Local, you will also handle day-to-day post office operations and must pass a Post Office financial check and criminal conviction background check before starting; if the checks are not passed, the offer will be withdrawn.
Flexible working
One Stop is open to discussing flexible working arrangements. The company recognises that colleagues may have different needs, such as starting out in their careers, caring responsibilities, approaching retirement, or adjusting to parenthood or other major life changes, and encourages conversations during the application process.
Benefits and colleague support
The company offers a broad benefits package for colleagues. Full details are available on the Careers Page. As an independent business within the Tesco group, the benefits may differ from those offered by Tesco itself.
Community involvement
Community support is an important part of the business. One Stop works with local charities and groups as well as national organisations, and over the last ten years has raised more than £10.4 million for good causes. Through partnerships with FareShare and Olio, the company has also donated the equivalent of 1.6 million meals to help reduce food waste and support people in need.
Colleagues are encouraged to take part in fundraising and local initiatives, from sporting challenges to community raffles.
Diversity and inclusion
One Stop welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and aims to provide a fair, respectful, and inclusive workplace. As a Disability Confident Leader (Level 3), the company offers reasonable adjustments during recruitment, including interviews, to help candidates compete fairly. It also has colleague networks for Armed Forces, Disability, LGBTQ+, Families & Carers, Race & Ethnicity, and Women.
Other information
The company may close the vacancy before the advertised closing date if a suitable candidate is found early, so applicants are encouraged to apply promptly.
