About the role
Old Mutual is looking for an analytically strong and proactive Credit and Quantitative Risk Manager to join its Harare team. This position sits in the second line of defence and is responsible for protecting the organisation’s capital, profitability, and control framework from credit and operational risk exposure.
The role focuses on independent oversight, strong risk measurement, ongoing monitoring, and clear reporting. It also includes checking that credit risk management practices across the business are effective and aligned to policy and governance expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee credit risk across the organisation’s lending portfolio.
- Check the accuracy of credit data used for impairment provisioning, interest suspension, and regulatory submissions.
- Carry out independent assessments of the credit control environment to confirm adherence to internal policies and procedures.
- Track and analyse key credit risk indicators against internal thresholds and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate the review and refresh of credit risk policies.
- Build and validate quantitative models used for credit risk measurement.
- Run credit risk stress tests in accordance with model governance standards.
- Prepare and present independent credit risk updates for Executive Committee, Board Loans Review Committee, and other governance bodies.
- Advise stakeholders on new and emerging risks, along with practical mitigation actions.
- Lead, supervise, and develop the credit risk management team.
- Handle additional duties assigned by management.

- Consistent monitoring of the credit risk control framework and related audit issues.
- Strong implementation of credit risk policies and operating procedures.
- Accurate and punctual reporting to senior leadership and regulators.
- Delivery of reliable risk model development and validation work.
- Early identification of risks and effective mitigation planning.
- Well-executed credit risk stress testing processes.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Risk Management, or a closely related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in Risk Management or a similar area will be considered an advantage.
- At least 2 years of experience in credit risk management, including quantitative modelling and stress testing in a financial institution.
- Good working knowledge of Basel II/III frameworks and IFRS 9 requirements.
- Demonstrated strength in financial modelling and analytical work.
